Chandigarh has once again proved its craze for VIP and fancy vehicle registration numbers, as the latest auction conducted by the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) set a new record. In just one day, the auction generated a massive revenue of ₹2.96 crore, showcasing how far people are willing to go for stylish and premium number plates.
The star of the auction was the prestigious CH01-DC-0001, which received the highest bid and was finally sold for a whopping ₹31.35 lakh. Another highly demanded number, 0009, also witnessed intense bidding and successfully fetched ₹20.42 lakh, proving its continued popularity among luxury car owners.
However, the most interesting and entertaining twist of the auction came with the number 2213. It became the unexpected showstopper due to its catchy Hindi and Punjabi wordplay — many bidders found it attractive because “2213” sounds like “Baais Tera” or “Bhai Tera”, making it trendy, quirky and culturally relatable. This fun factor added excitement to the auction atmosphere.
The record-breaking auction clearly reflects the fascination of Chandigarh residents and nearby regions for elite, stylish and symbolic number plates. For many, these numbers are not just for identification but a matter of prestige, personality, and social status.
With such massive participation and record earnings, Chandigarh continues to reinforce its image as a city where premium vehicles and premium numbers always stay in high demand.
