UP YouTuber Shadab Jakati Arrested Over Viral Video Praising Daughter, Released on Bail in 90 Minutes

Social media influencer Shadab Jakati was arrested in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday after a complaint was filed against a viral video in which he complimented his young daughter’s beauty and linked it humorously to her mother’s looks. The video, which also featured his wife and another woman, sparked controversy online, leading to allegations of obscene content involving a minor. BJP leader Rahul Thakur, along with other local residents, accused Jakati of making indecent remarks and demanded strict action.
Following the complaint, Meerut Police registered a case under Section 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for obscene acts and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act related to objectionable online content. Some complainants even demanded the inclusion of the POCSO Act, citing the presence of a child in the video. Jakati was detained from his residence around 4 p.m. and presented before the court shortly after.
His counsel argued that the clip included only family members and had no sexual intent or harmful content, after which the court granted bail within 90 minutes. Following his release, Jakati issued an apology to anyone who felt offended and confirmed that he had deleted the video soon after it went viral. The incident has reignited debate over the responsibility of influencers, the limits of online content, and the increasing number of complaints filed against creators in Uttar Pradesh.
