In a major initiative to tackle the worsening winter pollution and safeguard student health, the Delhi government has announced that air purifiers will be installed in 10,000 classrooms across government schools. Education Minister Ashish Sood confirmed that this is the first phase of a larger plan aimed at ensuring safe, breathable indoor air for schoolchildren, especially during the hazardous winter smog season.
With Delhi consistently recording alarming AQI levels every winter, classrooms often become unsafe learning spaces. The move is expected to significantly reduce exposure to polluted air, respiratory risks, and pollution-related health complications among students. Authorities have stated that this initiative will soon be expanded to cover every government school classroom, ensuring citywide protection for children.
This decision has been widely welcomed by parents and education stakeholders as a proactive step towards prioritising student health, improving classroom environments, and promoting cleaner learning spaces in the capital.
